Rudy Profumi
Founded in Milan in 1920 by Spiridione Calabrese, Rudy Profumi developed from experiments in a family hairdressing shop into a cosmetics and fragrance business. Before establishing the brand, Calabrese moved into cosmetic production after selling the family hairdressing business to his brother in 1914; sources also credit him with developing a method for melting and solidifying lipstick into sticks. The name Rudy was inspired by Rodolfo Valentino, and the early brand presented Italian style with an international vocation through promotion in women’s magazines, cinemas, and radio. During the postwar economic-boom period, Calabrese’s son Antonio took over management, introduced perfume lines whose packaging was designed as a gift object, and later passed leadership to his four children. The business remains operated by the Calabrese family across four generations. Today, Rudy Profumi combines fragrance with distinctive packaging, Italian perfumery tradition, research, environmental attention, and products intended to support wellbeing. Its Le Maioliche di Rudy collection draws on Italian cities and Sicilian maiolica craft, while its historical fragrance identity includes figurative bottles such as the wishing well, three elephants, and The Cage, which became associated with collectors.
