Sage Machado

Sage Machado began in 1992 with one-of-a-kind artisan jewelry collections inspired by a Paris trip and French jewelry trends; her early wholesale growth included Barneys New York. After opening a Los Angeles boutique in early 1998, Machado expanded the brand from jewelry into gemstone-inspired perfumery and candles, developing the perfumery herself with a niche perfume house and treating each gemstone as the conceptual basis for a scent. The Gemstone Perfumery launched with five fragrances—Amber, Amethyst, Citrine, Topaz, and Jade—and later expanded into a larger collection named for stones and shaped by their perceived color, personality, origin, and atmosphere. Following the 2008 economic crash, the apparel division closed, and the business returned its focus to jewelry and perfume. Machado closed the Los Angeles boutique in 2013 and the brick-and-mortar store in 2017; the brand’s public creative identity is now expressed primarily through The Sage Lifestyle’s gemstone perfumery and related fragrance products. Pearl, Diamond, and Onyx are currently presented among the collection’s best-selling fragrances, with Pearl described by Machado as especially close to her heart.
