Sam Edelman

Established in 2004 as designer Sam Edelman’s eponymous footwear brand, Sam Edelman’s story follows a creative partnership that began in 1987, when Sam and Libby Edelman launched Sam & Libby. Before creating his namesake label, Sam Edelman worked on footwear for Ralph Lauren and Esprit, held an executive role at Candies, and co-founded Kenneth Cole Productions; Sam leads design for the brand, while Libby contributes as muse and marketing collaborator. Its design foundation draws on travel, European fashion exposure, shoe construction, quality, and comfort, alongside an identity framed by timeless American elegance, heritage, creativity, innovation, and an irreverent, trend-oriented style. In 2012, Brown Shoe acquired Sam & Libby from The Jones Group and reunited it with its founders. That year, the Sam Edelman business also expanded into outerwear and accessories and introduced Circus by Sam Edelman, followed by jewelry and an announced apparel expansion in 2013. As of Caleres’ 2025 reporting, Sam Edelman is a company-owned brand within Caleres’ Brand Portfolio. The Felicia ballet flat is identified as an iconic Sam Edelman design, with more than seven million pairs reported sold.
