Santa Eulalia

Santa Eulalia was founded in Barcelona in 1843 by Josep Taberner and his son Salvador as a textile-goods store on Boqueria Street. The business developed from textiles into fashion and haute couture, and in 1926 it held its first fashion show on the upper floor of its store, pioneering a Paris-inspired presentation format in Barcelona. In 1908, Domingo Taberner took Lorenzo Sans Vidal as a business partner; after Taberner died in 1915 without descendants, his widow sold her participation to Sans, establishing the Sans family’s control of the business. Santa Eulalia remained a family business through successive Sans generations, with Luis Sans assuming leadership in 1988 at age 22 after the unexpected death of his father. Its identity today combines fashion, bespoke tailoring and fragrance. The house entered perfumery in 1947 with its first eau de cologne, while Citric, part of its modern fragrance collection, is directly inspired by that original scent. Santa Eulalia relaunched and expanded its fragrance activity in 2014 with a collection inspired by Barcelona’s Mediterranean and cosmopolitan character. Its 180th anniversary was marked by a 2022–2023 exhibition at Barcelona’s Palau Robert.
