Scent Trunk

Scent Trunk was founded in 2015 by Toronto college friends William Yin and Richard Smale, who set out to make bespoke perfumery more accessible. It began as a personalized-fragrance concept and later reworked that foundation into the DIY Bespoke line and Discovery Palette, formerly the Fit Kit, while developing an identity centered on exploration, discovery, and fragrance education. The brand helps people build personal fragrance collections rather than follow a single traditional scent profile. Its creative model brings together independent perfumers and other artists through seasonal palettes and monthly editions shaped by an olfactive council. Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesdays created the scents for the original personalized-perfume concept. In 2018, Perfumer’s Apprentice acquired Scent Trunk. The later Original Editions model paired seasonal, ingredient-focused fragrances with geographical destinations; its first described example, Pennyroyal by Tyler Monk, launched in November 2019 and drew inspiration from Andalucía, Spain. Pennyroyal was subsequently named a finalist in the Independent Category of the 2020 Art and Olfaction Awards.
