Schwarzkopf Mass Market

Schwarzkopf began in 1898, when chemist and pharmacist Hans Schwarzkopf opened a color, drug, and perfumery shop in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Its early history was marked by hair-care innovation: in 1903 it introduced a water-soluble powder shampoo, and by 1927 it had added liquid shampoo and established the Schwarzkopf Institute of Hair Hygiene for research and training. The brand’s development also included Onaltherma, a permanent-wave product that did not require heating hair to 100 degrees, and Poly Color, its first home hair-colour product. Schwarzkopf is an umbrella hair-cosmetics brand covering hair care, styling, and coloration, with Schwarzkopf Retail serving consumers alongside Schwarzkopf Professional for professional customers. Its identity emphasizes precision, reliability, quality, trust, and competence. The 1903 powder shampoo was trademarked with the black-head silhouette and distributed beyond Germany in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe.
