Sebastian Professional
Sebastian Professional was introduced in Los Angeles in 1972 by hairdressers Geri Cusenza and John Sebastian, founded on the principle of fearless hair fashion. Its identity centers on challenging conventional beauty, fearless self-expression, artistry, and stylist-led innovation. In 1976, the brand introduced education videos for salons and professional stylists, extending its role into stylist education. Shaper hairspray followed in 1984 and could be sprayed upside down, while Potion 9 debuted in 1990 as a leave-in treatment credited with creating a new wearable-treatment category. In December 2020, Wella Company was established as a standalone business divested from Coty, with Sebastian Professional included in its brand portfolio. In 2024, Wella Company appointed Oscar-nominated hair artist Frederic Aspiras as Global Creative & Culture Director. In 2025, Sebastian announced a global brand restage with a new visual identity and the “Shape Your World” campaign, framing the brand around artistry, individuality, and self-expression.
