Sensai

SENSAI traces its heritage to Tokyo Cotton Trading, founded in 1887, and to Kanebo’s 1936 launch of SAVON DE SOIE, a silk-derived luxury facial soap. Kanebo entered London’s Harrods in 1979, while SENSAI was introduced in Europe in 1983 as one of Kanebo’s lines. The brand brings together Japanese sensibility, aesthetics and awareness of nature with skin science and technology through the concept “The Sense and Science of Japan.” Koishimaru Silk connects this identity with contemporary skincare, while the Saho ritual draws on Japanese tea-ceremony etiquette and hospitality. Introduced in 1989, SENSAI EX La Crème was a key milestone in establishing the brand as a high-end European cosmetics brand. Kao acquired Kanebo Cosmetics in 2006, bringing SENSAI into Kao’s cosmetics portfolio. After decades marketed mainly in Europe, SENSAI launched in Japan for the first time in September 2019. Its fragrance legacy includes THE SILK, launched worldwide in August 2015 as SENSAI’s first perfume line. The Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette were perfumed by Marie Salamagne and conceived to evoke the feel of Koishimaru silk on skin.
