Sex and the City
Sex and the City began as an HBO television series that premiered on June 6, 1998. Created by Darren Star and loosely adapted from Candace Bushnell’s book based on her New York Observer columns, it followed Carrie Bradshaw and her friends Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda as they navigated sex, love, and relationships in New York City. The series was distinguished by its frank portrayal and discussion of sex, often framing relationship questions through Carrie’s newspaper column. Its original television run ended in 2004 after six seasons, followed by Sex and the City: The Movie in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. In 2021, HBO Max introduced And Just Like That..., following Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigated life and friendship in their 50s. On April 8, 2022, HBO’s parent WarnerMedia combined with Discovery to form Warner Bros. Discovery. The franchise’s fragrance extension was a licensed HBO product line, with Givaudan creating the scents. Launched in 2011 with Sex and the City and Sex and the City by Night, the collection drew inspiration from its four female leads and expanded in 2012 with Sunrise and Sunset.
