Shalini
Shalini is a fragrance house founded by Shalini Kumar, who launched its eponymous parfum at Bergdorf Goodman in 2004. Born in Bombay, Kumar worked in Valentino Couture and later established her own haute couture clothing and jewelry line before moving into fragrance. The brand developed from that couture practice, bringing its standards of craftsmanship and materials to haute parfumerie. Its creative identity draws on personal memory, emotion, and place, with Kumar associating fragrances with moments and destinations such as Provence, Dubai, Tahiti, and Japan. Maurice Roucel is the principal perfumer and collaborates directly with Kumar as a co-creator. The collection is rooted in classical French perfumery and emphasizes high-concentration parfum compositions made with rare natural materials and absolutes. White florals, especially tuberose and neroli, are recurring reference points: the first Shalini creation, which gave the brand its name, grew from Kumar’s childhood memory of tuberose and her recollection of Seville’s neroli and orange blossom.
