Sigilli

Sigilli is an Italian fragrance brand publicly documented by May 2011, when the University of Bologna’s Smell Festival presented Enrico Buccella as the creator of its fragrances. Buccella is consistently identified as Sigilli’s perfumer and creator, with Basenotes also listing him as the brand’s parent company. The house’s stated concept explores fragrances and aromas associated with the ancient world, particularly Etruscan and Roman civilizations, while connecting that historical perspective with contemporary tastes. At the 2011 Smell Festival, Buccella presented Sigilli alongside his other fragrance collections and discussed the role of spices in perfumery. The brand’s documented releases begin in 2010 or 2011 and include later additions such as Hymba and Bayan Mulak in 2012 and Khanbaliq in 2013. Hymba offers a clear example of Sigilli’s historical and ethnographic approach: its inspiration came from the Himba use of Omumbiri resin, which Buccella transformed into a resinoid for the fragrance.
