Six Scents
Six Scents was founded in New York in 2008 as a collaborative fragrance project co-founded by Kaya Sorhaindo and Joseph Quartana, with Sorhaindo as founder and creative director and Quartana as founder and collection curator. Developed with Metaproject, Seven New York, and Symrise, the project paired contemporary fashion designers with professional perfumers to translate visual and conceptual identities into limited-edition fragrances. Its launch extended beyond perfume into cultural presentation, including an installation at the New Museum, while its first series comprised six designer-perfumer collaborations. Across four series of six scents, the collection received industry recognition, including a 2009 Cannes Lion for packaging innovation; Series Three won The Fragrance Foundation’s 2011 FiFi award for Indie Brand fragrance of the year. Six Scents later served as a collaborative platform connecting Quartana’s fashion work with the subsequent single-authored fragrance world of Parfums Quartana. An official retrospective records that partner and distributor disagreements disrupted the project’s future over six months in 2013.
