Song of India
Song of India traces its origins to 1932, when Jagdamba Prashad Mathur founded Mathur Perfumery Works in Old Delhi to make natural perfumes, aromatic oils and incense through traditional Indian techniques. In the 1950s, the family craft passed to Durga Prashad Mathur, who continued the perfumery with Raj Rani Mathur and preserved its traditional oil-formulation methods. During the 1960s, international travelers visiting the Delhi shop helped bring the family’s natural fragrance products to overseas customers. Song of India was introduced as a distinct brand in 1972 in response to growing international demand for Indian fragrance traditions, while R. Expo, established that year by Raj K. Mathur with his brothers Ashok and Shiv Kumar, carried the family business into international orders and exports. The family-run brand’s identity is centered on natural fragrance, Indian cultural heritage, nature, Ayurveda and traditional craftsmanship. Ankit and Sanchit Mathur joined alongside Rajni Mathur in 2010, marking the business’s fourth generation of family leadership. The Organic Goodness collection followed in 2014, extending its focus to organic ingredients, responsible sourcing, sustainability and wellness. The Song of India trademark is registered to R. Expo (USA) Ltd., Inc., covering perfume and incense. Its India Temple line is temple-inspired, and proceeds from its products support a children’s education charity.
