Sonia Kashuk
Sonia Kashuk worked as a makeup artist with photographer Arthur Elgort and served as Aveda’s cosmetics creative director from 1989 to 1997. In 1997, she co-authored Cindy Crawford’s Basic Face, an instructional beauty workbook, and in 1999 partnered with Target to launch the Sonia Kashuk Professional Makeup Collection. The launch paired professional makeup expertise with mass-market retail, while the brand’s identity emphasized quality, design, and accessibility. Kashuk published Real Beauty and received the Cosmetic Executive Achiever Award in 2003; in 2009, Allure named her among its top innovators and influencers. By 2011, the Target collection had expanded beyond makeup to include fragrance, skincare, nail color, and accessories. On August 12, 2015, Target acquired the brand from Kashuk, ending her ownership. The brand is now an exclusive Target label focused on cosmetic cases and makeup-application tools.
