Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog began as a SEGA video-game series in 1991, when the first title was released in North America for the Genesis. As SEGA later withdrew from the console business and became a game publisher, Sonic’s world extended beyond games into films, animated television, music, merchandise, and additional characters and worlds. SEGA and Sammy combined their businesses on October 1, 2004, creating SEGA SAMMY HOLDINGS. The original Sonic game entered The Strong museum Hall of Fame in 2016. The franchise moved into live-action and computer-animation cinema with the 2020 feature film, followed by Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic Frontiers in 2022 and the Sonic Prime animated series. After criticism of the first film trailer’s character design in 2019, the production redesigned Sonic to more closely resemble the character introduced in 1991.
