Sophie La Girafe

Sophie la girafe began on 25 May 1961, when its namesake toy was first made at Delacoste’s Paris headquarters. Designed by Mr. Rampeau for infants to grip and use during teething, the natural-rubber giraffe’s appeal rests on its tactile form and squeak, and the toy remains the center of the brand’s public identity. After Vullierme acquired Delacoste in 1982, Sophie la girafe became Vullierme property; in 1989, the Alain Thirion group purchased Vullierme, which became Vulli. Sophie la girafe remains one of Vulli’s two principal brands. Its 50th anniversary in 2011 was marked by an auction of artist-created works benefiting the cancer-research program Révolution Cancer. In May 2026, an investigation challenged the brand’s long-standing French-made identity, after evidence indicated that most giraffe bodies had been produced in China for years; Alain Thirion acknowledged Chinese production of the unfinished rubber bodies while maintaining that finalization and checking took place in France. The brand also has a separate fragrance extension comprising Eau de Soin Parfumée and Eau de Toilette.
