Fragrance house
Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney launched her eponymous luxury fashion house in 2001 and presented its first collection in Paris that October. She had previously served as creative director of Chloé in Paris, beginning in 1997. From its launch, the house combined sharp tailoring and feminine–masculine contrast with an ethical design position, excluding leather, fur, skins and feathers from its designs. Its long-running adidas performance-wear partnership began in 2004, and in 2012 McCartney became adidas’s creative director for Team Great Britain at the London Summer Olympics. On January 27, 2025, she announced the repurchase of LVMH’s minority stake, ending the label’s relationship with the group. At the Fall/Winter 2025–26 Paris show, she described the collection as her first truly independent vision since college. The house’s fragrance legacy includes Stella, launched in 2003 as McCartney’s signature fragrance and inspired by an English country climbing rose with a heavy natural scent.
