Fragrance house

Stéphane Humbert Lucas

Founded in 2012 by Stéphane Humbert Lucas, the eponymous fragrance house followed his earlier work creating Nez à Nez, The Hype Noses, and soOud. The house developed from Lucas’s work across painting and perfumery, including a Paris boutique-laboratory that combined paintings with perfumes and reflected an artistic approach shaped by synesthesia. He treats perfumery as an artistic form, beginning each fragrance with visual, musical, literary, and poetic ideas. Lucas remains the house’s central creative figure and perfumer, associating colors, sounds, and scents in his compositions. Its first collection, 777, launched in 2012 after Lucas’s travels in the Middle East and reflects his interest in Oriental symbolism. Black Gemstone is one example from the collection and a personal favorite of Lucas, who has described valuing its layered, dark character. The Serpent collection, launched in 2022, explores snake symbolism and legends from around the world.
