Fragrance house
Strangelove
Founded in 2013 by Elizabeth Gaynes, Strangelove grew from her work with Bornean farms producing sustainable oud and her involvement in developing a 600-acre patchouli and vetiver plantation with a major fragrance house. The brand launched in 2014 at Harrods’ Salon de Parfums with deadofnight, first offered as a pure perfume oil. Oud is the house’s defining olfactory material, with its perfume house dedicated to oud and other rare ingredients. Strangelove subsequently developed a collection of oud-based perfume oils and eaux de parfum, including meltmyheart, silencethesea, lostinflowers, and fallintostars. Creative Director Helena Christensen helped shape the brand’s identity, fragrance narratives, product development, photography, names, bottle design, and colors. Christophe Laudamiel was the house perfumer associated with the early Strangelove trio alongside Gaynes and Christensen. The launch fragrance deadofnight was built chiefly around sustainable Bornean oud.
