Fragrance house
Strangelove NYC
Strangelove NYC is a New York-based perfume house founded in 2013 by Elizabeth Gaynes. Its origins lie in Gaynes’s three-year involvement with Bornean farms producing sustainable oud and other fragrance ingredients; she then decided to establish a house focused on oud, sustainability, and rare ingredients. The brand launched in 2014 at Harrods’ Salon de Parfums with deadofnight, its first pure perfume oil. From its early period, Helena Christensen has served as creative director, contributing hands-on to fragrance development, naming, photography, and bottle design, while perfumer Christophe Laudamiel collaborates with Gaynes and Christensen on the fragrances. Oud provides the house’s signature olfactory identity: each of the five original scents combines two types of sustainable oud with other rare ingredients. The format evolved from perfume oils, including oils worn in a flower-topped necklace, to larger sprayable eaux de parfum. In 2019, Fallintostars was announced as the brand’s fifth scent after a year-long collaboration among Gaynes, Christensen, and Laudamiel; its launch was tied to an Apollo 11 50th-anniversary gala at Kennedy Space Center and a benefit auction for the Aldrin Family Foundation.
