Sunoco
Sunoco traces its business history to Pittsburgh partners Joseph Newton Pew and Edward O. Emerson, who expanded from natural gas into oil in 1886. On March 17, 1890, they formalized the enterprise as Sun Oil Company, producing, transporting, storing, refining, shipping, and marketing petroleum. The company later underwent a 1975 restructuring, adopted the name Sun Company, Inc. in 1976, and returned the Sunoco name to its fueling stations in the late 1980s before becoming Sunoco, Inc. in November 1998. Its motorsports involvement began in the 1960s through a partnership with Roger Penske Racing and driver Mark Donohue; in 2004, Sunoco became an official NASCAR fuel supplier. On October 5, 2012, Energy Transfer Partners completed its merger with Sunoco, Inc., making Sunoco a subsidiary within the Energy Transfer corporate structure.
