Swiss Army
Swiss Army is associated with Victorinox, whose story began in 1884, when Karl Elsener opened a cutlery workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland. The Swiss Army identity developed from Elsener’s 1897 patent for the Original Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife, now known as the Swiss Army Knife. In 1909, Elsener chose his mother Victoria’s first name as the brand name and registered the Cross & Shield emblem; in 1921, “Inox” and “Victoria” were combined to form Victorinox. Its identity emphasizes Swiss heritage, craftsmanship, quality, functionality, durable design, and being “best prepared.” The fragrance business came under Victorinox ownership in 2005, when it acquired Wenger S.A., and Victorinox established Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG in 2007. Swiss Army Classic, identified as the original and first Swiss Army fragrance, carries the brand’s red-and-silver visual language and Swiss identity into perfume. Victorinox credits its conception to perfumer Harry Fremont of Firmenich.
