Fragrance house
Tabu
Tabu was launched by the House of Dana on August 22, 1932, as the Spanish house’s first perfume. Created by French perfumer Jean Carles, it introduced a concept of forbidden, overtly sensual fragrance and was presented as “The Forbidden Perfume.” Tabu became Dana’s defining early fragrance and helped establish the house internationally. Dana’s history identifies it as a classic oriental perfume and a prototype for the later Dana fragrance Tuvara and Estée Lauder’s Youth Dew. In August 2025, IMG Holdings, the parent of Dana Classic Fragrances, entered Chapter 11 protection and sought a sale of its fragrance assets. A Delaware bankruptcy-court order dated October 28, 2025 transferred substantially all relevant assets to Dana Heritage Finanz St. Honore Beauty LLC, which was also identified as the buyer in a related bill of sale. A November 2025 trademark application identifies Dana Heritage Finanz St. Honore Beauty LLC as the applicant for the TABU mark.
