The Beatles

The Beatles formed in Liverpool in 1960 with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. After developing their live act at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, they met manager Brian Epstein there in November 1961. They signed with EMI and auditioned with producer George Martin on 6 June 1962; “Love Me Do,” their first UK single, followed on 5 October. After touring, the group increasingly used the recording studio for experimentation: Rubber Soul reflected interest in unusual sounds and Indian music, while Revolver followed a longer period of studio work and greater experimentation. In 1968, they founded Apple Corps to oversee their creative and business interests, with Apple Records serving as an outlet for their recordings and artists selected by the band. In 2007, Apple Inc. took ownership of the Apple-related trademarks and licensed certain marks back to Apple Corps. In 2023, “Now And Then” was released as the last Beatles song. In 2024–2025, Apple Corps and The Beatles authorized a four-film scripted project directed by Sam Mendes, the first project for which they granted full life-story and music rights for scripted film.
