The Signature Collection

The Signature Collection is a fragrance collection of London perfume house Ormonde Jayne, rather than a separately identified standalone brand. Ormonde Jayne grew from Linda Pilkington’s scented-candle work following a Chanel commission; its name combines her middle name with Ormonde Terrace, the road where she lived. The company was incorporated in the United Kingdom on 22 November 2000, opened its first dedicated London home in 2001, and released its first fragrances in 2002. Pilkington remains the house’s founder, creator and central creative figure. The collection’s identity brings together British craftsmanship, French perfumery, travel and cultural references, and rare or unusual materials. Its early fragrance phase included Ormonde Woman, Champaca and Tolu. Ormonde Woman, noted for its use of black hemlock absolute, has had a cult following for years, while Ormonde Man, launched in 2004 with oud, represented an early Western use of oud in fine fragrance. In 2005, the house removed masculine and feminine labels from its range, reflecting Pilkington’s view that gender and sense of smell were unrelated.
