Then There

Then There is an independent Spanish fine-fragrance house founded in Madrid by Iranian musician Rouzbeh Dadbin. Its identity draws on literature, philosophy, fine arts, and sciences, using imaginative narratives as the basis for fragrance creation. The house’s core concept pairs a significant figure from the arts, literature, music, or sciences with a city, presenting each fragrance as a person-and-place duet. Its first fragrance collection was announced for spring 2024; by June that year, four fragrances had been released, and the brand was presented at Esxence in Milan. The collection is a four-part series: Mozart in Muscat, Fellini in Nishapur, Dickens in Varanasi, and Raphael in Kathmandu. Mozart in Muscat imagines Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Muscat, while Dickens in Varanasi places Charles Dickens in Varanasi. Angela Ciampagna is the brand’s creative collaborator, and all four fragrances reviewed in 2024 were composed by her.
