Tiffany & Co

Tiffany & Co. was founded in New York in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young as a stationery and fancy-goods store, with its first emporium opening on September 14, 1837. After Young and J. L. Ellis retired in 1853, Charles Lewis Tiffany assumed control, and the name evolved into Tiffany & Co. The House published its first direct-mail catalogue in 1845; known as the Blue Book Collection, it represented the high end of its jewelry portfolio. In 1886, Tiffany introduced the six-prong Tiffany Setting engagement ring, a design milestone that shaped the brand’s association with diamond jewelry. Louis Comfort Tiffany became the company’s first official Design Director in 1902, and his colorful, naturalistic Art Nouveau aesthetic remained an ongoing source of inspiration for Tiffany designers. Elsa Peretti joined Tiffany in 1974 and became associated with a sculptural, modern aesthetic exemplified by the Bone cuff and Diamonds by the Yard. On January 7, 2021, LVMH completed its acquisition of Tiffany & Co., making Tiffany a wholly owned indirect subsidiary. In fragrance, Tiffany & Co. eau de parfum launched in 2017 as Tiffany’s new signature fragrance, with iris at its center.
