Tobali
Tobali was founded by Muneki Hashimoto and began developing fragrances in 2017, with an advance release in Paris select shops that year followed by its Japanese debut in February 2018. Its concept, “hidden beauty,” interprets Japanese fragrance culture and aesthetics through a restrained visual language, white packaging, and narratives that draw on Japanese cultural figures and contrasting emotions. Developed with Nippon Kodo, the brand used the custom base “Hidden Japonism 834” as a central olfactory element; Tomoyuki Yonezu of EROTYKA TOKYO PARIS shaped its creative presentation, and Nobuyoshi Araki created the debut collection’s main visual. Smoke Flower, combining dense flowers, tobacco smoke, and agarwood, is Tobali’s most-loved and iconic fragrance. In November 2021, Colours launched THOUSAND COLOURS, a new fragrance brand drawing on its work with Tobali; by March 2023, selected Tobali fragrances had been carried over into the newer brand, documenting continuity between the two labels.
