Todd Oldham

Todd Oldham showed his first collection in Dallas in 1981 and moved to New York in 1988 with business partner Tony Longoria, where they developed the Times 7 women’s shirt collection. On May 1, 1989, Oldham joined Onward Kashiyama USA, which backed the reintroduced Todd Oldham collection and its New York expansion; the Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded him its Perry Ellis Award in 1991. The label’s creative identity brought elaborate embellishment and craft together with references to thrift-store finds, vintage imagery, popular culture, memories of Tehran, and everyday objects. Oldham launched an eponymous perfume in 1995, then in 1998 designed the interiors of The Hotel in South Beach, extending his work into comprehensive interior design. He closed the collection portion of the business in the late 1990s and redirected his work toward other design activities and Todd Oldham Jeans. A 2016 RISD Museum exhibition surveyed the label’s 1989–1999 New York period, while the studio’s current portfolio spans fashion, books, projects, photography, and the Todd Oldham Maker Shop.
