Tommy Bahamas
Founded in 1992 by Tony Margolis, Lucio Dalla Gasperina, and Bob Emfield, Tommy Bahama began with men’s casual sportswear shaped by tropical flair. Its premise grew from a fictional character representing perpetual island living, whose stories became the basis for the company. The brand later broadened into women’s fashion, swimwear, accessories, home furnishings, retail, and restaurants. Oxford Industries agreed to purchase Viewpoint International, Tommy Bahama’s owner, on April 27, 2003, and completed the acquisition on June 13; Tommy Bahama is now wholly owned by Oxford Industries. Its identity centers on island life as a state of mind, expressed through relaxed coastal style, color, hand-drawn patterns, and hospitality. In 2023, Tommy Bahama marked its 30th anniversary and described a lifestyle spanning retail, restaurants, and Marlin Bars. Its fragrances extend the island-escape theme through references to travel, warm water, and sunshine; Tommy Bahama for Her, launched in 2013, is identified as the brand’s signature fragrance, alongside scents such as St. Barts.
