Topman

Topman began in 1978 as Topshop’s menswear line, opening its first store in Leeds that year. Its design direction changed substantially after Jane Shepherdson became brand director in 1999 and Gordon Richardson joined as design director, moving from basic menswear toward a defined, trend-led fashion perspective. By 2009, the brand’s creative identity was closely associated with London fashion, music and emerging designers through initiatives including its MAN collaboration with Fashion East and involvement in London Fashion Week. Topman’s public brand statement describes Topman and Topshop as rooted in London culture and design, with an emphasis on creativity, originality and support for other creatives. After Arcadia entered administration, ASOS completed its acquisition of Topman’s brand and customer-relationship assets on 4 February 2021. Topman entered fragrance in 2011 with a grooming range developed with Azzi Glasser, centered on the complementary eau de parfums No. 16, described as crisp and cool, and No. 27, described as smoky and warm.
