Torrente

Founded in Paris in 1968 by Rose Torrente-Mett, Torrente grew from a couture house into a broader fashion label spanning ready-to-wear, accessories, and fragrance. Torrente-Mett, who had previously worked with her brother Ted Lapidus, shaped the house around classic femininity, rich fabrics, lace, brocade, embroidery, and structured tailoring, remaining its central creative figure for more than three decades. In 1971, Torrente entered the Paris haute couture circle through membership in the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture and launched a men’s ready-to-wear line during the same period. After Torrente-Mett’s departure, Julien Fournié produced collections under the Torrente name during 2003 and 2004. Following a majority-capital transfer to Groupe Chammas, the house presented its last haute couture show in 2004. The Torrente company filed for bankruptcy in 2021, marking the end of its long haute couture era. Its fragrance legacy includes L’Or de Torrente, introduced in 2001 and directly documented as a defining Torrente fragrance.
