Tosca
Tosca is a German fragrance launched in 1921 by Mülhens, the Cologne fragrance company associated with 4711. Named after Giacomo Puccini’s opera, it is currently presented as a classic women’s fragrance with a feminine, classic olfactory identity associated with elegance and extravagance. Its ownership shifted in the 2000s: Procter & Gamble acquired Wella AG and its subsidiaries in 2003, bringing Mülhens, including Tosca, under its ownership; Mäurer & Wirtz agreed in December 2006 to acquire Tosca from P&G’s Mülhens subsidiary, with the final brand transfer completed on 1 May 2007. The original Tosca perfume is the brand’s defining fragrance: its recipe was reported unchanged in 2015, when its packaging was updated in blue and gold to reinforce a timeless feminine identity. Mäurer & Wirtz describes Tosca as one of Germany’s most successful classic women’s fragrances and among the country’s leading women’s perfumes since 1921.
