Toskovat'

Toskovat' is an independent perfume house based in Bucharest, Romania, founded in 2022 by David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi. After studying screenwriting and graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the film industry had stalled, Jipa-Slivinschi turned to perfume as another medium for storytelling. Self-taught in perfumery, he developed the house around translating memories and human experience into scent narratives, or “extraits de mémoire,” touching on childhood, cinema, loss, consumerism, faith, betrayal, and war. The name refers to toska, a Slavic concept associated with nostalgia, longing, yearning, love-sickness, and ennui. Toskovat' introduced its first eight “extraits de mémoire” in September 2022, followed by releases including Things We Never Shared and Anarchist A_. Its early work includes Silent at the Theme Park, inspired by lilac outside the family home and amusement-park memories; Age of Innocence, which moves from childhood sweetness toward the burnt smells of maturity and traffic; and Inexcusable Evil, centered on memories of wartime suffering.
