Trudon
Trudon’s history begins in 1643, when Claude Trudon became the owner of a shop on Paris’s Rue Saint-Honoré and developed grocery and candle-making activities. The Antony wax manufacture was founded in 1702 and became a Royal Manufacture in 1719. Jérôme Trudon acquired it in 1737, and the manufacture developed expertise in white beeswax candle-making while adopting the motto “DEO REGIQUE LABORANT.” It supplied the imperial court during the Empire; in 1811, Napoleon presented his newborn son with a Trudon candle decorated with gold pieces bearing Napoleon’s likeness. Carrière Frères acquired the manufacture in 1884. In the mid-2000s, Ramdane Touhami revived the dormant Cire Trudon brand, reconstructing its history from 1643, restoring the Trudon name, and introducing historically themed scented candles. The scented-candle era began in 2007. From 2009, creative director Julien Pruvost shaped the modern identity by extending the historically rooted candle house into personal fragrance while balancing historical references with contemporary design. In 2017, Trudon created its first five personal fragrances and adopted the shorter Trudon name. Abd El Kader is one of the brand’s signature scents, presented as a Moroccan mint-tea composition inspired by Abd El Kader and Algeria’s Mascara region.
