True Religion Brand Jeans

True Religion Brand Jeans was founded in California in 2002 by Jeff Lubell and Kym Gold. It entered the Los Angeles denim scene by reworking the classic five-pocket jean and developing its five-needle, two-stitches-per-inch Super T stitch. In 2003, a public company acquired Guru Denim, Inc.’s outstanding shares and changed its name to True Religion Apparel, Inc. that August. TowerBrook Capital Partners acquired True Religion in 2013, taking the formerly public company private. The brand filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July 2017 while continuing to operate under a proposed debt-reduction agreement with lenders. In 2021, a collaboration with Supreme connected True Religion’s early-2000s denim heritage with younger consumers and supported an effort to evolve the brand with and for Gen Z.
