Tsumura
Tsumura traces its foundation to April 10, 1893, when Jusha Tsumura established Tsumura Juntendo in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The company was incorporated in 1936 and, after the Second World War, focused on reviving and institutionalizing Kampo, the Japanese medical tradition. In the 1970s, its prescription Kampo formulations entered Japan’s National Health Insurance drug-price system as insurance-covered medicines. Tsumura presents its identity as a pharmaceutical company specializing in Kampo and combining it with Western medicine. Its history also includes the 1931 launch of Bathclin aromatic bath salt. The household-products business, including Bathclin, was spun off in 2007 and its shares transferred in 2009. The company adopted the name TSUMURA & CO. in 1989.
