Ungaro

Emanuel Ungaro founded his eponymous fashion house in Paris in 1965 after apprenticing with Cristóbal Balenciaga, establishing it on Avenue Montaigne two years later. The house’s fashion language combined bright colors and contrasting prints with draping, feminine silhouettes, and close attention to detail and color. It expanded from couture into ready-to-wear, while Ungaro remained creatively involved until leaving the house in 2004. Salvatore Ferragamo acquired control in 1996; in November 2005, it sold the house to an investment fund associated with American entrepreneur Asim Abdullah. Giambattista Valli served as creative director from 1998 to 2004, working alongside Ungaro during that transition. In October 2021, Inter Parfums entered a 10-year exclusive global license to create, develop, and distribute Ungaro fragrances and related products. Ungaro’s fragrance history includes Diva, its first fragrance, launched in 1983 and inspired by Emanuel Ungaro’s relationship with actress Anouk Aimée.
