Uptown Perfumery

Uptown Perfumery is a Harlem-based fragrance business started by entrepreneur Silvia York. Its earlier Harlem context includes Uptown Soap Co., founded around 2008 by Bulgarian-born Silvia Dontcheva, which began with handmade soaps before expanding into perfumes and other fragranced products. Today, Uptown Perfumery presents artisanal scents created in a 1910 New York brownstone, where perfumes are poured in small batches and bottled and packed by hand. The brand’s fragrances use proprietary formulations, European-standard ingredients, plant-based formulations, and essential oils where possible. In 2020, its destination-themed offerings evoked Hawaii, New York, France, and Italy. A current brownstone-themed collection includes Full Moon Over The Brownstone and Avenue Tulips, connecting the fragrances to New York settings such as Central Park’s Conservatory Garden and Park Avenue.
