Vakko

Vakko was founded in Istanbul in 1934 by Vitali Hakko as the small hat shop Şen Şapka. After Albert Hakko joined in 1937, the business adopted the name Vakko in 1938 and began producing scarves from Turkish silk, cotton, and wool. It established a silk-printing workshop in 1948 and organized Turkey’s first fashion show in 1955. The first Vakko store opened in Beyoğlu in 1962, marking a move from its hat-and-scarf beginnings toward a broader luxury ready-to-wear identity. In 1981, the Anatolian Sun fashion-and-art show presented Anatolian culture through Western fashion concepts in Rome, Vienna, Brussels, Paris, and London. The following year, Vakkorama extended Vakko’s public identity into youth culture through music, art, and sport. Vakko launched Katia in 1990 as Turkey’s first fashion-house signature perfume, followed by V de Vakko and Piu Piu. Its cultural work later included the Vitali Hakko Creative Industries Library, established in 2012, and Vakko ESMOD, founded in collaboration with ESMOD in 2013.
