Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt began in 1976, when Murjani partnered with Gloria Vanderbilt to launch designer jeans bearing her name and swan symbol. The label drew on Vanderbilt’s public identity as an American artist, actress, fashion designer, author, heiress, and socialite, and expanded into fragrance, accessories, shoes, home products, and related goods. In 1978, Vanderbilt sold rights to her name to the Murjani Group and relaunched her own company, GV Ltd., which she had founded in 1976. The brand became especially associated with fragrance through an agreement with L’Oréal that began in 1982. The original Vanderbilt scent also launched that year and was composed by perfumer Sophia Grojsman. The fragrance association made the name most famous for perfumes, with the original scent described as an enduring classic.
