VARON DANDY
Varón Dandy is the principal men’s fragrance line of Perfumería Parera, the perfume and cosmetics company founded by Joan Parera i Casanovas in Badalona, Barcelona, in 1912. Emerging in the early 1920s, with its cologne dated to 1923, it broadened beyond a single scent into a men’s perfumery and grooming collection that included lotion, fixative, creams, toothpaste, and hair products. Its public identity drew on Spanish masculine grooming and the figure of the dandy, represented in historical packaging and advertising by symbols such as a top hat and white gloves. The original cologne is especially identified as Perfumería Parera’s star brand, with sales in many countries, particularly in Latin America; its documented profile is an old-style spicy-woody chypre. Varón Dandy’s history was revisited in the Museu de Badalona exhibition “Perfumeria Parera. 100 Years of Varon Dandy,” held from December 2022 to May 2023, while the brand continues to present the cologne as a classic of traditional men’s fragrance and barbering culture in reformulated form.
