Vera Wang
Vera Wang opened her first flagship store on Manhattan’s Madison Avenue in 1990, marking the brand’s entry into bridal fashion. Before founding the brand, Wang worked as a Vogue fashion editor and design director at Ralph Lauren; while planning her 1989 wedding, she identified a gap in contemporary bridal design. The brand’s aesthetic combines sensuality, youthful sophistication, intricate detailing, draping, and a nonchalant sense of style. It introduced ready-to-wear in 2000 and expanded into fragrance, footwear, eyewear, jewelry, home, fine china, and crystal. Its recognition includes the CFDA Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, France’s Legion of Honor, the National Medal of Arts, and a CFDA Board of Directors Tribute. Independently owned since its founding, the brand entered a new ownership arrangement in 2024, when WHP Global agreed to acquire its intellectual property; the acquisition was completed in January 2025, with Wang remaining founder and chief creative officer. Vera Wang fragrances debuted in 2002 under a Coty license. Princess, launched in 2006, is identified as the brand’s iconic scent and became a top seller.
