Vicky Tiel

Vicky Tiel’s story began when Vicky Tiel met Mia Fonssagrives at Parsons School of Design in 1962, forming the partnership that preceded the brand. They moved to Paris in 1964 and introduced the Mia-Vicky mini dress, which received international coverage, including a five-page feature in Life. In 1968, Tiel and Elizabeth Taylor opened the Mia-Vicky boutique on Paris’s Rue Bonaparte, with Taylor serving as both Tiel’s muse and business partner. After Fonssagrives left Paris in 1970, the label became Vicky Tiel, with an editorial account dating Tiel’s sole brand identity to 1971. The brand developed from 1960s youth-oriented ready-to-wear into a Parisian couture and eveningwear label known for feminine, sensual, draped designs. Tiel also created costumes for films including What’s New Pussycat?, Saturday Night Fever, Black Rain, and Pretty Woman. The fragrance line began in 1989 and includes Sirene and Ulysse; Ulysse was identified as the brand’s first men’s fragrance when it launched in 1998.
