Victorinox
Victorinox traces its beginnings to 1884, when Karl Elsener opened a knife-cutler’s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz, Switzerland. In 1891, he established the Association of Swiss Master Cutlers and supplied the Swiss Army with its first major delivery of soldier’s knives. Elsener patented the Original Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife in 1897, a product that became closely associated with Victorinox’s public identity. The name combines Victoria, chosen in 1909 in memory of Elsener’s mother, with Inox, a reference to stainless steel; the legal company name became Victorinox AG in 1979. The Swiss Army Knife entered the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent design collection in 1977. Victorinox acquired Wenger SA in 2005 and integrated its knife business into the Victorinox brand in 2013, while retaining the Wenger name for watches and travel gear. Fragrance became a distinct part of the brand in 2007 with Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG. Swiss Army For Her, relaunched as For Her Ginger Lily, has been the brand’s female bestseller over the last decades, while Steel, launched in 2018, is one of its signature scents.
