Violet
Founded in Paris in 1827 by François-Étienne Violet, Violet became an official supplier to Empress Eugénie and Queen Isabella II of Spain. In 1858, its shop adopted the name “À la Reine des abeilles - Maison Violet,” and in 1867 the Universal Exhibition committee recognized several products associated with director Louis Claye. Under Aaron-Marc Rehns, who took leadership in 1885, the house entered stock-market trading and expanded exports under the name Veolay in the United States, England, Russia, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. The original house ceased activity in 1955. In 2016, Victorien Sirot, Paul Richardot, and Anthony Toulemonde bought Maison Violet from an investment fund and revived it; the house reopened its story in 2017 after decades of dormancy. Nathalie Lorson composes the revived fragrances, while the trio provides artistic direction, intent, and historical framing. Its first revived creations, presented in October 2017, included Un air d’apogée, Sketch, and Pourpre d’automne, with names inspired by Violet’s historical catalogue.
