Wacken
Wacken’s fragrance identity grows out of Wacken Open Air, the heavy-metal festival founded in 1990 in Wacken, Schleswig-Holstein, by Holger Hübner and Thomas Jensen. Its public identity is tied to heavy metal music, festival community, and the Wacken setting, while its fragrance range translates that identity into scent. The festival’s history records a first breakthrough in 1992 associated with Saxon and Blind Guardian, followed by another at its tenth anniversary in 1999. In July 2024, the founders collaborated with 2 Pilots to introduce the Wacken Signature Line, a five-fragrance Eau de Parfum collection. Flame presents a darker, warmer fougère and barbershop interpretation, while Pink Blood is built around smoky incense, amber, and cedarwood. The fragrances are distributed by Wacken Olfactory Works as festival fragrances. In June 2024, KKR announced its acquisition of Superstruct Entertainment, whose portfolio includes Wacken Open Air, changing the wider ownership structure associated with the brand.
