Waterford
Waterford was founded in Waterford City, Ireland, when George and William Penrose established a glass manufactory on 3 October 1783. The original glassworks ceased production in 1851, ending the first phase of the brand’s history. Waterford Glass Ltd. became a public company in 1966 and acquired Wedgwood in 1986, extending the business from crystal into a broader luxury home and lifestyle group. The Lismore pattern, designed by Miroslav Havel and introduced in 1952, was inspired by the Gothic architecture of Lismore Castle. Waterford Wedgwood entered receivership on 30 January 2009 during the financial crisis, after which KPS Capital purchased some overseas assets and businesses of the group. Waterford is associated with Irish crystal craftsmanship and lifestyle products, and Fiskars currently includes it among its lifestyle brands. In fragrance, Waterford launched Lismore in 2008; perfumer Harry Fremont developed it, with its concept tied to the Lismore crystal design.
