Weleda

Weleda’s origins date to 1921, when Ita Wegman, Rudolf Steiner, and Oskar Schmiedel developed medical and personal-care work that led to commercial production in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, alongside Wegman’s establishment of the Arlesheim Clinic in Switzerland. The company grew from Steiner’s 1920 First Course for Doctors and anthroposophical ideas connecting human health, nature, and a holistic view of body, mind, and spirit. In 1928, it adopted the name Weleda, adapted from Veleda, and introduced a logo designed by Steiner with a stylized staff and Aesculapian snake. Weleda’s stated purpose is to support the health and beauty of body, soul, and spirit in harmony with people and nature. Its original skincare product Skin Food, developed in 1926, became the foundation of the Skin Food range. In 2024, Weleda modernized its corporate design, logo, and overall brand image. On 9 September 2025, it announced an independent study of its history during the Nazi era.
