William Rast

Founded in 2005 by Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala, William Rast began as a denim-focused clothing line. Its name joins William, Timberlake’s grandfather’s first name, with Rast, Ayala’s grandfather’s surname. The label later expanded into sportswear, outerwear, and leather goods, with a public identity tied to Southern heritage and Americana influences rooted in the founders’ shared childhood experience. After a period away from public view, it was relaunched with Gilt in September 2016 in a more mature, refined, comfortable, and casual direction. During Sequential Brands Group’s Chapter 11 proceedings, William Rast’s assets were sold under an agreement dated October 28, 2021; the sale closed on November 9, and JJWHP, LLC assigned its rights and obligations to WRWHP, LLC.
